If you’re aching for some bacon the guys at VANEATS.ca have the dining package for you! This time they’ve paired up with Prestons Restaurant. Located on Coal Harbour, Prestons is a west coast eatery with an Asian flair. They have great drink specials every night and it’s a great place to catch the game. The FIRSTimPRESTONS package is a three-course ode to bacon, a sonnet to the pancetta, a love poem to pork.
@yvrbcbro and I went to check them out on a Sunday afternoon, which was awesome, as they have all their daily drink specials on sale that day! Beer? Wine? A cocktail? Name your poison. Check out Sean’s awesome review here.
We start our journey with the trio of appetizers:
Prestons’ Pulled Pork Poutine, This is one of Prestons’ signature dishes: crispy french fries, Quebec cheese curds, and slow cooked pork in a Rickards Red Gravy. The real winner was the Rickards Red Gravy – it had subtle flavours and a nice velvety consistency that was a perfect pairing for the pork.
Chicken Karaage, garlic sake marinated boneless chicken, flash fried, served with a spicy sambal lime aioli and completed with a miso cabbage slaw. The chicken was so juicy and tender, perfectly crispy. I could’ve eaten a hundred of these.
Moving on to the main course, We had a choice of one of the following:
1/2 Rack of Baby Back Ribs – welcome to the tenderest, juiciest, most succulent ribs you’ve ever had… glazed in a sweet hoisin & ginger marinade, these ribs will bring tears to your eyes they’re so good. paired with roasted fingerling potatoes and a crunchy coleslaw.
The BC Halibut Wrapped in Double Smoked Bacon – the fish was made so juicy by the bacon, and it gave it a nice crispy crunch. served with creamed leeks, quinoa, fresh asparagus and a honey shallot j’us that has to be tasted to be believed. This was my favourite dish. It was perfection on a plate.
Our final course was the Maple and Double Smoked Bacon Creme Brulee served with julienne slices of pickled granny smith apples. This dessert was more savoury than sweet, and very rich. The tartness of the granny smith apples cuts into the richness of the brulee nicely.
Chef Alessandro Vianello has hit a home run with these offerings. The VANEATS.ca package is perfect for one person, and its on sale for $21 on their website starting Feb 29th until April 29th, there are limited quantities for this package so get yours before they run out.
