This restaurant is located in the heart of Gastown. They specialize in Mexican Cuisine, and their menu offers plenty of vegetarian options. They feature a large dining area as well as private party rooms. They also offer free salsa dancing every Saturday after 9pm. It’s easy to get to, it’s only a couple of blocks away from Waterfront Skytrain Station.
The service is ok – There’s a sign at the front that tells you you’re entering “Mexican Time” I take it as a sign that the service is relaxed and if you’re in a hurry, this might not be the best spot to grab a quick bite. I was right.
We shared a pitcher of their lime Margaritas to start. They were really good, salty, just they way I like them. Also strong, which is nice, specially if you’re paying a pretty penny for a pitcher ($22).
As an appetizer, we shared the Nacho platter ($8.25) they were good, plenty of toppings, the portion was decent. We opted to order extra guacamole and I recommend it.
For dinner we had the Enchiladas Dos Amigos ($12.95) and the Beef Enchilada ($14.95) Both dishes come with rice and beans. My favourite part was the enchilada sauce. It was tangy and it had just a hint of spice. It was delicious. Good portions too. The chicken and the beef were spiced just right.
Now for dessert: We had the Lime Cheesecake ($5.25) and the Flan ($5.25). I loved the cheesecake! it was almost like a mouse and it was so tangy… the way a good lime cheesecake should be!
The verdict: Vallarta Grill will do for a Mexican food fix.
