I love how Surrey is growing. With that growth comes more great restaurants to the Downtown core.

One of those restaurants is Nahm Thai Bistro. They have been open only for five months or so, but they are already causing quite the stir. I needed to see for myself what the buzz was all about. This place is getting a reputation for good quality, authentic Thai cuisine at reasonable prices.

The restaurant is very beautiful: Lots of natural light, white leather chairs and glass chandeliers to name a few of the features. Everything is so clean and bright and new.

We decided to share three dishes between us – two stir fries and a curry.

We ordered the Beef Green Curry ($13), the Sweet and Sour Chicken ($12) and the Thai Spicy Eggplant ($12)

The Green Curry was very creamy, with a rich coconut taste and a hint of spice. It was delicious. Just the right amount of bell peppers and bamboo shoots and basil leaves. It came with a steaming bowl of Jasmine rice.

My favorite dish was the spicy eggplant. It was very different. It had big chunks of tofu and jalapeno peppers and lots of basil. It was delicious and surprisingly, not overwhelmingly spicy. The texture of the eggplant and the bell peppers was very enjoyable. Plus the portion was very generous, enough for two or three people to share.

The sweet and sour chicken was a tad generic for my taste – compared to the other two dishes, it really didn’t stand out.

I also had the opportunity to try a Thai beer: Singha. This is a full bodied beer, yet very smooth. Perfect combined with our spicy dishes.

I found this restaurant to be very affordable and the portions are reasonable. They also deliver within the Surrey area after 5pm. If you’re around at lunch time, their specials start at $9 and that includes an entree and a soft drink.
