That Barista thing is a yearly event that celebrates the one thing that gets us out of bed every morning: coffee. It took place last Sunday at Library Square Downtown and it was sponsored by Blenz Coffee.

There were two competitions

The Free Pour:

Baristas were judged based on five categories:

1) Aesthetic Beauty

2) Definition

3) Colour Infusion

4) Degree of Difficulty and Creativity

5) Speed

Baristas were given five minutes to impress the judges with their creations. Top prize went to Masahito Orita from Japan.

It was pretty cool to watch baristas compete on the latte art event.  Judges included, Richard Wolak (vancouverfoodster.com), Eagranie Yuh (The Well Temper Chocolatier), Anya Levykh (EAT Magazine) and Wayne Wright (Bravo Coffee).

We were treated to free lattes courtesy of Blenz Coffee. There were lots of cool activities too! Chinese and Japanese tea ceremonies, tea leaf readings, and latte art workshops.
