The street food scene in Vancouver is here to stay and that’s something to get excited about. What’s better than sitting on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery on a sunny day, eating your favourite street treat.
One of those treats is being provided by Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck. The name says it all. Grilled cheese sandwiches for all.
Mom is actually Cindy Hamilton, a veteran of the food industry with over 20 years experience. And she makes one MEAN grilled cheese.
What makes their sandwiches so delectable? I could speculate that it’s their artisan bread made fresh everyday, or their quality choice of cheeses and toppings. I could say that it’s their personalized service and attention to detail, but the truth is simpler than that. They’re friking good.
The classic grilled cheese will set you back $5.50. You start with your choice of bread: white, sour dough, multi grain or marble rye. Moving on you choose your cheese: cheddar, havarti, pepper jack or provolone. For an extra charge, you can add-on other toppings such as bacon, tomatoes, pickles.
The sandwiches are very generous and grilled to perfection. Served in a parchment paper cone, with fresh potato chips at the bottom, these are fun to eat and delicious.
Mom has a few specialty items on her menu: The most popular is Mom’s Meatloaf Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($8.50) – Marinara sauce, meatloaf and melted Mozzarella and Parmesan on your choice of grilled bread. Currently Mom has a petition on her truck and if you want to keep the meatloaf sandwich on the menu, I suggest you sign it. The meatloaf is very time consuming to make, and unless Cindy gets 1000 signatures, the meatloaf goes the way of the Dodo.
You can find Mom’s Grilled Cheese at the corner of Howe Street & West Georgia, on the Vancouver Art Gallery Corner, Monday thru Friday, 11:30 am until 3:00pm. For the schedule of all your favourite street food trucks, download the free Street Food Vancouver App.
