Prawn, Shrimp, & Wild Mushrooms Salad

This was the winning dish for me. It took a lot for me not to lick the plate clean! The prawns and mushrooms are full of flavour and there’s a lot of texture in the salad from the taro root crisps. Fresh arugula tossed in a delicious lemon-hazelnut vinaigrette completes this fantastic dish. If you’re ever at Whet Kitchen Bar, You’ve GOT to try it.

Coconut Scallop Ceviche

Whet is famous for this dish. I checked into Foursquare when I arrived at the restaurant; and the first tip that comes up is “try the ceviche”! The juices are rich, lots of citrus and ginger flavours with a hint of  jalapeño spice. The ceviche has lots of shrimp and big chunks of white fish. I loved the home made corn chips. This is a different take on ceviche, so don’t expect the same flavour as you would in a Mexican restaurant.

Crispy Duck Leg

If I could only use one word to describe this dish, it’s “decadent”. A confit of Fraser Valley duck leg coated in a sweet chill ginger sauce, served with yam & plantain chips and garnished with grilled plums. The duck is rich, but not fatty or overwhelming. The plums compliment the meat perfectly. Loved, loved, loved the duck.

Red Honey-Curry Coho

A great West Coast dish, this is a filet of wild BC salmon with a saffron yogurt sauce, hot pickled lime puree and candied almonds. It is complimented with a market vegetable. I never thought to pair salmon with saffron, but oh my, does it ever work. Just delicious.

To compliment your meal, this VANEATS.ca package comes with 2 Sleeves of Angry Scotch Ale, a dark ale with a slight smoky character. Goes great with the duck!
