Discover the Vibrant Flavours of India at Raunak Indian Cuisine, Surrey

Nestled in the heart of Surrey’s Whalley District, Raunak Indian Cuisine beckons diners on a culinary journey through the flavours of India. Derived from the Hindi word for brightness, happiness, and liveliness, Raunak perfectly encapsulates the essence of joy and glory through its yummy vegetarian offerings.

Stepping into Raunak, diners are greeted by an atmosphere buzzing with energy reminiscing of Indian Street food, therefore I encourage you to come to visit with that picture in mind. The restaurant is loud and service is scares. While the service may be limited, the dedication of the staff to delivering flavourful dishes remains unwavering. If dining in it’s not your cup of tea, I recommend getting take out.

Food Highlights: Begin your meal with Raunak’s signature samosas. These crispy, perfectly fried parcels of goodness encase a flavourful potato filling, infused with fragrant cumin and whole coriander seeds. Served alongside a tangy tamarind sauce, each bite is a delightful homage to the street food delights of North India.

For the main course, indulge in the vegetarian butter chicken, surpsrisingly dense and tasty for meatless cuisine. Tender soya chunks are bathed in a luscious tomato sauce with the right blend of spices. I ordered mine with a side of jasmine rice and an order of garlic naan – this dish left me wanting more.

For those seeking a fusion of flavours, the double decker paneer sandwich is a must-try. Layered with paneer, onions, and a medley of chutney and spicy mayo and paired with piping hot fries, this sandwich was really an enigma. Granted all these ingredients shouldn’t work together but I gotta say they did. Proof was how my son refused to share his sandwich with me and I really had to beg for a couple of bites.

Dessert Delights: No meal at Raunak is complete without indulging in their Indian desserts. I enjoyed the sweetness of homemade gulab jamun ,which are tender morsels of fried dough soaked in a fragrant sugar syrup. We also shared into the creamy richness of rasmalai – cheese dumplings immersed in a saffron-infused milk syrup, for a truly indulgent finale.

Raunak Indian Cuisine stands as a testament to the rich vegetarian cuisine of India and all its vibrant flavours. I look forward to trying more of their dishes.
