For anyone who loves wine, the Vancouver International Wine Festival (VIWF) is more than an event. It’s an experience.
As someone who’s attended this event in past years, I can confidently say that this festival is the ultimate way to connect with wine, the people behind it, and the stories that make each bottle unique. Next year, the 46th edition promises even more to explore, and I’ve already marked my calendar for February 22–March 2, 2025.

Let me share my top reasons why this is the must event for every wine aficionado:
- Wines of the USA: A Spotlight Worth Celebrating. Each year, the VIWF shines a light on a specific region, and in 2025, it’s all about Wines of the USA. This means 50 wineries from California, Oregon, and Washington will bring their best to Vancouver. Having sampled some of these at past festivals, I can attest to the diversity and quality these regions offer. From the bold reds of Napa Valley to the nuanced Pinot Noirs of Willamette Valley, the wines reflect the rich terroir of the West Coast. What I love most is how the festival doesn’t just pour wines—it tells stories. American winemakers are deeply committed to sustainable practices, and attending their seminars or chatting with them at the Tasting Room is a lesson in how the future of winemaking intertwines with care for the land.

- The Heart of the Festival: The Tasting Room. The Tasting Room at the Vancouver Convention Centre is where the magic happens. This space buzzes with energy as attendees explore nearly 700 wines from 122 wineries representing 15 countries. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to taste wines side by side, discover hidden gems, and meet the people behind the labels. Look for those wearing royal blue lanyards—these “vine stars” include winemakers and proprietors eager to share their insights. For me, the Tasting Room is as much about discovery as it is about savoring familiar favorites.
- The 2025 lineup promises an exciting global mix, with wines from Croatia, Hungary, and even sake brewers from Japan joining the usual heavyweights like France, Italy, and Chile.
- Events That Elevate the Experience. What sets this festival apart is the sheer variety of events. From winery dinners at Vancouver’s finest restaurants to educational seminars and casual minglers, there’s something for everyone. Personally, I’m looking excitedly to the Taste of America lunch, which offers a curated exploration of U.S. wines paired with thoughtful dishes. If you’re a wine geek like me, the Cruising California wine party is another can’t-miss event.

These themed gatherings offer wine education in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. They are perfect for deepening your appreciation for the craft. Enjoy without feeling formal or intimidating.
- A Festival for All Wine Lovers. What I love most about the Vancouver International Wine Festival is its inclusivity. The festival is perfect if you’re a seasoned collector building your cellar. It also suits someone just beginning their journey into wine. The festival offers something for every level of interest.
