When The Keg throws a party, you show up hungry — and thirsty.
I was invited to the rooftop of The Keg Steakhouse + Bar in Yaletown for the launch of Heineken’s newest beer, and let me tell you, these two brands together? A match made for good times. The Keg has built its reputation on steak, classic cocktails, and hospitality that keeps people coming back. Heineken is globally known for being the beer you grab when you want something familiar, crisp, and easy to share with friends. Put them together on a sunny Vancouver rooftop and you’ve got yourself a vibe.
Right as we stepped onto the patio, the Heineken stand greeted us with chilled tasters and friendly reps who walked us through the new brew — a low-calorie, low-ABV light beer that clocks in at 4% with only 90 calories. It’s a smart move for the brand — a beer that goes down easy without weighing you down. Perfect for patio season.
Food stations were strategically placed to keep us fed between sips. Heated troughs held sliders made with grilled rib steak and slathered with roasted garlic mayo, while freshly shaved prime rib sandwiches got a punch from horseradish Dijon sauce and sweet caramelized onions. Over at the seafood station, we helped ourselves to shrimp cocktail and West Coast oysters — served with martini cocktail sauce, horseradish, maple mignonette, and the ever-essential Tabasco. The oysters were bigger and milkier than I usually prefer, but a heavy hand with the sauces fixed that.
One of the standout bites was the fried cauliflower tossed in chipotle hot sauce with a lime aioli. Spicy, tangy, and satisfying — though, let’s be honest, not exactly finger food friendly for a mixer. Still worth the napkin juggling.
What made the night was the company — familiar faces from Vancouver’s food and beverage scene, media, and other industry friends all catching up over drinks. Good times feel even better when shared, and that’s the energy The Keg always delivers. Whether it’s a dinner, happy hour, or an event like this, you know you’ll leave full and happy.
