Every fall, like clockwork, we find ourselves driving out to Maan Farms in Abbotsford. It has become a tradition at this point, one part pumpkins, one part screams, and about three parts mini donuts. This year Dylan, my son joined me, and he loved it. Honestly, who wouldn’t? It feels like fall in BC has been turned into its own theme park.

Daytime at the Farm

Before the scares, there’s the wholesome side of things. Fall at the Farm runs daily. It’s packed with pumpkins and corn mazes. There are enough Instagram photo ops to drain your phone battery. This year, they added a Dinosaur Den. You can take selfies with pumpkins. You can pretend you’re running from a T-Rex at the same time.

The Frightfully Fun Forest Pumpkin Patch is perfect for kids. It’s also great for adults who aren’t ready for a full horror experience. The patch is glowing with fog and lights. It even has the biggest pumpkin house in Canada. Dylan ran straight inside like it was Disneyland. I was already calculating how long it would take me to track down the cinnamon-pumpkin mini donuts.

They also host Dog Days and the Pooch Parade on select dates. Imagine dachshunds in hot dog costumes, corgis as tiny devils, and golden retrievers in pumpkin tutus. Honestly, I’d take that over a chainsaw chase any day.

The Fright Festival: For Those Who Like Screaming in Public

Once the sun sets, Maan Farms flips the switch. The Halloween Fright Festival is not for the faint of heart. Or for anyone wearing mascara that isn’t waterproof.

  • Slaughterhouse: Touted as the scariest corn maze in Canada. Actors with chainsaws jump out while you navigate a meat-packing plant. Dylan loved it. I considered my life choices.
  • The Way Down: You wear a hood, and suddenly you’re in sensory deprivation. It’s like horror meets a spa treatment, except instead of cucumbers on your eyes, it’s sheer panic.
  • 3D CarnEvil: New this year, and my favourite. You put on 3D glasses and stumble through a neon nightmare carnival. Think glow sticks, clowns, and walls that move when they shouldn’t.

We screamed, we laughed, and yes, I may have shoved Dylan in front of me once or twice. Survival instincts kicked in.

The Food (AKA Why I Really Go)

I’d be lying if I said I braved the Slaughterhouse just for the adrenaline. The truth is, I’m here for the seasonal treats. Maan Farms knows how to do fall food right:

  • Apple Nachos with warm apple filling and wipped cream.
  • Pumpkin ice cream that makes you forget you’re about to be chased by a guy with a chainsaw.
  • Pumpkin Mini donuts, perfectly coated in cinnamon sugar, worth the lineup every single time.
  • Themed cocktails for the adults offer a way to take the edge off before The Way Down. They at least make you think you’re braver than you are.

Why We’ll Keep Coming Back

Every year, Maan Farms manages to top itself, and this year was no different. Dylan called it “the best night ever.” This is pretty high praise considering it involved both chainsaws and a glowing pumpkin house. For us, it has become one of those seasonal outings that just doesn’t feel like fall without it.

We’ll be back next year. And the year after that. As long as they keep serving those mini donuts, you’ll find us there.
