The Central City Brewery is located steps from the new SFU Surrey Campus and the Surrey Central Skytrain station.
I had made plans to meet a girlfriend for coffee after class, but after finishing one particularly gruelling midterm, I knew coffee wasn’t gonna cut it, so we made plans to meet at the Central City Brewery instead.
I’ve been meaning to try this restaurant out for a while now. I’ve heard good things about their beers, and its nice to see more choices of restaurants in the Surrey Downtown core.
We got there a little bit before 1pm and the place was packed. Yet we didn’t wait a long time to be seated and our server came right away and took our drink order.
Did you know they do beer tastings? I didn’t until I asked the waitress what beers she recommended. She offered me three choices based on my preferences: the raspberry ale, the pumpkin ale and the pale ale. Now I like beer, but I wouldn’t say I’m a connoisseur. I ended up ordering a pint of their pumpkin ale being that it’s only seasonal. My favorite was definitely their Red Racer pale ale, it was crisp, and had an almost citrus aroma to it and no beer after taste.
I ordered the daily special – soup and sandwhich. It was a good choice for a rainy day. The soup had a beefy broth and lots of vegetables. It was almost like a stew and very filling. We also had the cheese bread appetizer that came with a generous serving of meat sauce.
For dessert we decided to try the stout chocolate brownie… oh so good! It came warm and served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce.
Our waitress was very busy, but she did come by a few times and asked us how we were doing. Overall I thought that the experience was good.
Some people look at this restaurant and try to compare it to Cactus Club or Earls’ or something like that. Folks, its a pub. They serve pub fare. Their beer is awesome. Its a great place to meet with friends and catch up or watch the game.
I think the Central City Brewery is a great addition to the Surrey downtown core.
