Canucks honour first captain Orland Kurtenbach

At tonight’s game against the Avalanche, the Canucks took some time to celebrate one of their own : former Captain Orland Kurtenbach. He is the first inductee to the Ring of Honour –  a program designed to recognized players that have made significant contributions to the franchise in the past 40 years.

Kurtenback is of course, the Canucks first captain. He played for four seasons, and he coached the team for two more seasons after that.  He is also a lower mainland resident and an active member of the Canucks Alumni program

Tonight’s ceremony included a video montage of Kuterback’s time as a Vancouver Canucks, a permanent in-arena display, as well as some quotes from former teammates and coaches.   Each fan that attended tonight’s game also got a commemorative keepsake pin.

There are still 3 more members to be inducted into the Ring of Honour: One in November 24, one in January 24, and one in March 14  – these players are yet to be chosen.

Who would you like to see up there? call me sentimental, but I think Kirk McLean should be one of those players.
