Me and my favourite foodie blogger Sean were looking for a good place to have dinner before a movie at International Village. We’ve both heard good things about Verace Pizzeria, so we decided to give it a try. As it turned out, it was a great idea. Sean took all the photos for this post. Also check out his own review of Verace on his blog.

Their crusts are amazing: crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft and foldable in the middle. They make their dough daily in small batches. Their ovens are so hot, they can cook a pizza in 90 seconds flat. They rotate their pies to cook them evenly. The flour to create the dough is imported from Napoli.

The toppings: Italian tomatoes, so sweet and tasty. Fior di latte, Buffalo mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, fresh arugula, spicy genoa salami, capicollo, fennel salami, goat cheese… So many tasty toppings that are guaranteed fresh for your pizza.

Sean and I ordered two pizzas to share: We had the Verace Margherita D.O.P. ($18.75) with sauce made out of San Marzano tomatoes from Italy, Buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil. There’s another Margherita pizza on the menu, but I really recommend you splurge on yourself and order this one. It was crazy good, the best Margherita pizza I’ve ever eaten. The combination of the melted cheese, the tangy tomatoes and the sweet basil was unforgettable. You combine that with their amazing crust and you have a winning combination.

Our next pizza was the Diavola ($16.25) With a name like that, I was expecting a very spicy pizza, but it wasn’t. It was mildly spicy and easy to take. It had spicy genoa salami and capicollo as meats, and  roasted red onion and peppers, and of course, more fresh basil. We had trouble finishing both pizzas, when we got them we didn’t think they were very large, but they were definitely satisfying. We really couldn’t eat another bite.

Sean and I really enjoyed ourselves here: The food was excellent, the service friendly. I know for a fact that I would come back again and try more menu items. For what I hear, their Fig e Rucola salad is not to be missed. Just one small thing: If you’re planning to enjoy a glass of wine with your pizza, make sure you are sited inside, as their patio doesn’t have a liquor license yet.
