Sushi Plus is a new Japanese sushi takeout joint in the heart of Whalley, across from Gateway skytrain. They also have a new location in New Westminster. They’ve only been open for a few months, but already they’re getting a reputation for good, affordable food and larger portions. They also have some limited seating inside the restaurant.
One day after work I decided to give it a try. I ordered a sashimi and sushi bento box. I was impressed by the fact that they use wild pacific salmon for their sashimi at not extra cost. I was impressed by the quality and the massive portions. I mean, really, here in Surrey?
The bento box was less than $9 and I tell you, there’s a lot of variety: tempura, sushi, sashimi, spring rolls, salad and miso soup.
My sashimi was great: fresh, wild pacific salmon. The tuna was really good, too.
I really liked my tempura. Sometimes tempura can be greasy and the sauce doesn’t have much flavour, but this tempura is really good! Not too greasy and the sauce had a nice tanginess to it.
You can find their menu on their facebook page. They have a lot of variety: cones, sushi, rice bowls, you name it. The prices are really, really good. I’m looking forwards to trying some of the rolls next time. Most of them are on the $7 mark, but they look interesting, like the smoked salmon and cream cheese roll. That sounds yummy.
