The Waldorf Hotel Presents: Dinner for the Dead

 This is way too cool.

The Waldorf Hotel is having a Dia de los Muertos Halloween Dinner on October 28 and the 29. The menu has been created by Chefs Ernesto Kut Gomez and Cesar de la Parra. This is an old Mexican tradition to revere the dead. On the Day of the Dead, families get together and create a nice meal, which they take to the cemeteries to eat with their dearly departed. They chat with them, clean their graves and basically spend some quality time with those who have left.

Guests are requested to bring a picture or personal item of a departed one that they would like to remember and place it at the Altar of the Dead. A wonderful Oaxacan-inspired dinner will follow, with the guests of honour being served first, of course. Following dinner, Artists Emilio Rojas, Guadalupe Martinez and Matias Armendaris will perform and lead guests thru an interactive ritual for the dead. After the ritual is completed, there will be live mariachi entertainment.

I love this event, I am so going, and I think it’s a wonderful, creative way to celebrate the lives of lost ones and to experience some of Mexico’s vibrant and rich culture.
