It was St. Patrick’s Day so my husband and I were excited to try this local Irish Pub fitting for the holiday.  It’s hard to believe The Dublin Cafe is located in a building that use to be a Federal Penitentiary Guard House Building in New Westminster at one time many years ago.  The building sits nestled on a hill over looking the Fraser River.

It was really beautiful on the back patio’s at night over looking all the lights.  The building itself is a mansion, restored and kept very well.  Being it was St. Patrick’s Day it was packed with people from wall to wall, music was fantastic, everyone was dressed in green of course with tray’s of green beer being served all around us.  The most adorable Irish Dancers were coming out and doing many different Irish jigs all over the restaurant floors, these girls were great dancers and had lots of stamina as they kept going for at least a 1/2 hour.

We started with the Panko Chicken Tenders – Lightly breaded & served with your choice of plum or honey mustard sauce & comes with fries for $10.99.  Being it was St. Patrick’s Day and we got there closer to 10:00pm they were out of the Corned Beef & Cabbage so I decided to try their Irish Stew – Beef, potato, onion & carrots in a rich creamy Guinness, tomato & wine sauce nestled in a sourdough bread bowl for $14.99.  This dish was absolutely fabulous and very fulling.

My husband opted for the The Dubliner Burger –  Maple bacon & double-aged cheddar on an Angus patty & French fries for $12.79 which comes highly recommended as one of the best burgers in the lower mainland.

Some other dishes that you should try if you visit The Dublin Castle are Montreal Smoked Meat – 1/2 lb piled high on untoasted rye & dijon for $10.49 & the Ultimate Yorkie Meal – Two of our incredible yorkshire puddings stuffed with shaved sirloin, topped with Guinness gravy & served on     castle mash. Choice of side or seasonal vegetables after 5pm for $15.99.  They do have a beautiful outdoor patio and on occasion have live music.  Service was wonderful last night in spite of all the craziness going on with it being St. Patrick’s Day.  You can view their website at www.dublincastle.ca.
