With this glorious sunshine, how can I resist heading downtown for a street food lunch? One Skytrain ride away and in 15 short minutes I am in Downtown Vancouver and in street food heaven!

One of the trucks I’ve been looking forwards to trying is The Street Meet Truck. I’m a big fan of chef Alessandro Vianello since his Prestons days, and he is pretty charming on twitter (seriously, follow him @a_m_vianello). So what goes better with sunshine than delicious Mediterranean food? Off I went.
The Street Meet Truck is located on the corner of Burrard and Pender. You can’t miss it, the truck is huge. And bright. I caught up with Chef Vianello as he was handing out free samples of their Sweet Corn Soup ($5). Of course I had to try it. The soup is nice and thick, almost like a chowder. And sweet. So good.
There’s only a few items in the menu, but plenty of variety. The menu is inspired by Alessandro’s and his business partner, Chef Mike Carter’s travels to Spain and Italy. Prices run from $3, $5 for a starter, to $12 for an entree.
So what should you order?
For starters, how about the Crispy Risotto Balls ($5) Two risotto balls stuffed with slow braised pork, olives and truffle oil. These are full of flavour, and not something you expect from a food truck. These are gourmet items that you expect from a fine restaurant.
Another best-seller is the Saltspring Island Lamb Burger ($12) Tzatziki sauce, Macedonian Feta cheese, Cucumber, Red Onion and Fresh Mint on a Ciabatta Bun. The lamb is moist and tender. The burger also comes with fresh chips.
If a burger is not what you’re craving, how about the Grilled Spicy Italian Sausage ($10) – Stewed Red Peppers with Taleggio Cheese on a Toasted Baguette. The sausage is nice and spicy and the red peppers are a great addition. This is a great street treat. I could’ve have 10 of these! I recommend it. For dessert, the Cannoli ($4) is an excellent way to end your meal. The Tiramisu filling is great, and the crust is perfection.
You can follow the The Street Meet Truck on twitter @StreetMeetTruck. Also check out the Street Food App, available on Itunes for free. This is an excellent way to keep up with all your favourite food trucks in Vancouver!
