Halloween is a time for ghost and ghouls and things that go bump in the night. Here in the West anyways.

In Mexico, it’s a time to celebrate “El Dia de los Muertos” or the Day of the Dead. During that time, families in Mexico prepare a wonderful family feast, pack it up, and head off to the cemetery to enjoy it with their dearly departed. The family cleans up the tombstones, paint them, and have their meal right there, even making a plate for the ones that are six feet under.

Another great Mexican tradition is the food – the hotter the better. The hottest pepper in the world (as proclaimed by The Guinness Book of Records in 1997) is the ghost pepper,  also known as naga bhut jolokia. With a Scoville scale rating of over a million (a jalapeño comes in at a mere 5,000), this pepper has been used not just for cooking, but also as a weapon.

For a limited time only, Mucho Burrito, the fastest-growing Mexican restaurant chain in Canada, announced that it has become the first national food chain to use the ghost pepperas part of its menu offering. The limited-time Hotter than Hell and Wimpy 12-inch Ghost Pepper Burritos will be available until November 2, the Day of the Dead, at Mucho Burrito locations across Canada.
