Summer’s here and what better way to start off BBQ season but to sit on the deck and sip some local craft beers and ciders. Recently I had the chance to enjoy some of BC Tree Fruits Cider Co.’s latest Broken Ladder ciders.
Broken Ladder ciders are BC Tree Fruits Cider Co’s latest premium craft cider line. They are made from local BC fruits, handpicked by their growers, crushed in their mill, fresh pressed, and natural. There is no added sugars and water, no artificial flavours, not from concentrate, and gluten free.
There are 3 flavours in the lineup. Two new flavours joining the original Apple cider.
I had the chance to try their Apples & Hop, toted as one of their most popular of the three. It is very dry, with hints of citrus. According to BC Tree Fruits there’s hints of grapefruit in it. Since I was drinking it with my dinner of grilled chicken and salad, I found this cider a bit too try for me and didn’t pair as well. It was also not as sweet as other ciders that I prefer, reminded me of Granny Smith apples. However, for those that really enjoy a dry cider, this would be for you. It is also very suitable for beer lovers due to the addition of the hops in the cider.
I moved onto the Broken Ladder Pear cider, which I really enjoyed. The fragrant pear and apple blend was sweet and light. It was very tropical in taste and “paired” well with my grilled chicken and salad! I definitely recommend this for those who prefer a more sweet and fruity cider. I don’t drink ciders often, but look forward to purchasing this for my next summer patio BBQ for friends to try.
BC Tree Fruits Cider Co. is located in Kelowna, and have their Cidery and Tasting Bar opened to the public where you can buy their Broken Ladder ciders in cans or growlers! However for those not lucky enough to head to their Cidery, Broken Ladder ciders are currently available at liquor stores in BC and Alberta.
