You’ve known someone for 15 years. You have travelled around together, let’s say an almost unhealthy amount of time. You’ve witnessed their almost obsessive dedication to the right shot, the right script, and the right lighting. It’s hard not to burst with pride when they achieve something truly remarkable. I’m thrilled to announce that my friend, Josh Rimer, has earned the title Best LGBTQ Travel Content Creator of 2024 by GayCities. This prestigious recognition is a testament to his passion, hard work, and love for showcasing LGBTQ+-friendly destinations worldwide.
If you follow me on social media, you already know Josh and I love to spend time together when we can. You’ve probably seen plenty of stories from our travels together. While we’re busy joking around, we also love educating ourselves (and you!) about the amazing cities we visit. Josh and I make a great team, and I absolutely love travelling with him.
From Mr. Gay Canada to GayCities
Josh’s achievements go far beyond his travel content. In 2019, he was crowned Mr. Gay Canada, spending the year travelling the world to represent our country. Through that role, he showcased Canada’s values of diversity and inclusivity as the good Albertan boy his mama raised. He demonstrated how much representation truly matters.
Even now, as a seasoned travel content creator and a familiar face on OUTtv, Josh remains as grounded as ever. He is witty, down-to-earth, practical, and, deep inside – a good guy. He takes a significant amount of time in making every piece of content he creates. His work ethic is something to be admired and feared a little bit. He has a lot of energy for someone who doesn’t drink coffee on a regular basis…
Josh was the only Canadian nominee among eight finalists selected by GayCities staff for this year’s award. Over the years, he’s become well-known in LGBTQ+ travel, showcasing destinations that embrace the community’s values. Josh explores the beauty of British Columbia’s cities like Vancouver, Abbotsford, and Kamloops. He also dives into international adventures in the United States, Colombia, and Thailand. Josh brings these destinations to life with his signature mix of humour, beautiful shots, and an informative script.
As Josh himself says, “Through travel we discover new perspectives and shared humanity. I love putting a spotlight on destinations that celebrate diversity and inclusivity.” Having taken a trip or two alongside him, I’ve seen this dedication firsthand. Whether it’s capturing the perfect shot or finding unique stories to share, Josh approaches every moment with unmatched energy and care.
My Honest and Obviously Biased Opinion?
Being named Best LGBTQ Travel Content Creator of 2024 by GayCities is a big deal, and I’m so glad that Josh is being recognized. GayCities is a top platform for LGBTQ+ travel guides and reviews, and this award reflects how much the community he’s built through his platform trusts and loves his content. I’ve seen him grow into the creator and advocate he is today. He’s spent years building an audience that truly cares about him ( sometimes a little too much) and nowadays that’s not an easy feat.
If you haven’t already, check out JoshRimer.com to see more of his work and connect with him on social media if you want to see what he’s up to. Whether it’s through his travel content or his fun moments with me on the road, Josh’s stories will leave you ready to explore the world and wanting to go on a road trip with your bestie.
Congratulations, Josh! Here’s to even more adventures, more milestones, and more laughter. Roaming with you is always a joy, and I couldn’t be prouder to call you my friend.
