If you’re looking to add some musical sparkle to your summer, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is serving up a double feature of pure joy at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl, running June 27 to August 16, 2025. This year’s lineup? The whimsical world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the pink-powered confidence boost of Legally Blonde The Musical. It’s imagination meets empowerment under the stars—exactly what Vancouver’s summer nights are made for.

A Golden Ticket to Pure Imagination

First up: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Whether you grew up watching the 1971 film or devoured Roald Dahl’s book as a kid, this musical is a nostalgic treat for all ages. Expect a playful mix of classics like “Pure Imagination” and “The Candy Man,” plus new tunes that make the stage version shine.

Charlie, our kind-hearted dreamer, scores a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s factory—cue edible inventions, Oompa Loompas, and some seriously strange moral lessons for his fellow tour-goers. Directed by Peter Jorgensen and choreographed by Keri Minty, the production features a talented cast of local performers bringing this zany world to life. Bonus: there’s a solid lineup of fresh TUTS faces and returning alumni, making it a must-see for theatre fans.

Elle Woods is Back—and She’s Still Got It

After dazzling audiences back in 2014, Legally Blonde The Musical is making a fabulous return to Stanley Park. This feel-good powerhouse is all about proving people wrong (in heels, no less). If you’ve ever been underestimated or written off, Elle’s journey from sorority queen to Harvard Law standout will have you cheering.

Directed by Jayme Armstrong with choreography by Lyndsey Britten, the production stars Abby Woodhouse as Elle, backed by a cast of fresh faces and beloved TUTS alumni. Expect high-energy dance numbers, endless pink outfits, and that signature blend of heart and hilarity that made the Broadway show and 2001 film cult hits.

TUTS 2025 – More Than Just Musicals

What makes a night at TUTS extra special? The community vibe. This year’s season includes:

  • VocalEye performance (July 25) – a live description of Legally Blonde for audience members who are blind or partially sighted.
  • Relaxed Performances (July 28 & 29) – sensory-friendly shows in partnership with Canucks Autism Network.
  • PAL Pass the Hat Night (August 8 & 9) – supporting affordable housing for Vancouver’s performing arts community.
  • Audio accessibility with the Betterear app, letting guests with hearing aids stream show audio straight to their phones.
