Vancouver’s biggest Latin American celebration is returning this summer, and it’s shaping up to be the festival’s biggest year yet.
From July 10 to 12, Carnaval del Sol Vancouver 2026 will transform Jonathan Rogers Park into a vibrant celebration of Latin American culture, bringing together music, food, dance, sports, art, and community for three unforgettable days. Produced by Latincouver, the festival is expected to welcome thousands of attendees and more than 350 artists and performers from across the Americas.
As someone who is proudly Salvadoran, festivals like this always feel a little special. They’re a chance to celebrate culture, reconnect with traditions, and share the energy and warmth of the Latin community with friends, neighbours, and visitors from every background.
Carnaval del Sol 2026 Celebrates Latin Culture in Vancouver
This year’s theme is “Play Loud, Celebrate Proud — Together We Are Stronger.”
It’s a fitting message for a festival that has spent nearly two decades bringing communities together through culture, music, and shared experiences. Throughout the weekend, visitors can explore multiple themed plazas, cultural exhibits, family activities, live performances, sports programming, and culinary experiences representing countries across Latin America.
At the heart of the festival is Plaza del Sol, where concerts, cultural showcases, and live performances will keep the energy going all weekend long.
Opening Night Features El Gran Silencio’s First Vancouver Performance
The festivities kick off on Friday, July 10, with a special Opening Night concert featuring legendary Mexican band El Gran Silencio.
Known for blending rock, reggae, cumbia, and Latin rhythms, the group is celebrating 30 years of music and will perform in Vancouver for the first time. The concert begins at 5 p.m. and launches a weekend packed with entertainment and cultural experiences.
Music, Dance, and Cultural Experiences All Weekend Long
While live music is always a major draw, Carnaval del Sol offers much more than concerts.
Festival highlights include:
- The colourful Latin American Parade on July 12
- Indigenous ceremonies from Latin America and Canada
- Live art installations and cultural exhibitions
- Traditional dance performances
- Family programming at the Kids & Youth Plaza
- Wellness activities and senior programming
- The She Latina Plaza, featuring women entrepreneurs and creators
- A pre-Hispanic Juego de Pelota experience at the Native Plaza

Music lovers can also look forward to performances by Chilean cumbia group Villa Cariño and Dominican-American fusion pioneers Fulanito, both performing on the Main Stage Plaza.
Soccer Takes Centre Stage This Year
One of the biggest additions to this year’s festival is an expanded focus on fútbol.
The Sports Plaza will host daily soccer tournaments featuring teams representing different countries and communities. Not only will spectators enjoy exciting competition, but they’ll also experience the passion and pride that soccer inspires throughout Latin America.
A Culinary Tour of Latin America
No Latin American festival would be complete without food.
Visitors can sample flavours from across the region, including traditional comfort foods, regional specialties, desserts, and refreshing beverages. Whether you’re craving empanadas, pupusas, tacos, arepas, or something sweet, there will be plenty of opportunities to eat your way through the festival.
Meanwhile, guests aged 19 and older can visit the Beer Plaza, where DJs will keep the party going with Latin House, Reggaeton, Salsa remixes, and tropical beats throughout the weekend.
Tribuna Latina Brings the Soccer Celebration to Gastown
The festivities extend beyond the festival grounds.
From June 8 to July 19, Latincouver will host Tribuna Latina at the Latin Plaza Hub in Gastown. The free fan experience will feature big-screen soccer match viewings, Latin-themed celebrations, food and drinks, live DJs, and family-friendly activities.
Admission is free, although advance reservations are required due to limited seating.
Why Carnaval del Sol Matters
What has always made Carnaval del Sol special is that it goes beyond entertainment.
It’s a celebration of Latin American identity, resilience, and belonging. It’s a place where people can connect through music, food, art, language, and shared experiences. At the same time, it invites everyone to learn more about the rich cultures that make up Latin America.
Whether you’re part of the Latin community or simply looking for one of Vancouver’s most energetic summer festivals, Carnaval del Sol offers an experience that is welcoming, joyful, and full of heart.
