Vancouver has never been shy about celebrating food, but this September, things are about to get delightfully briny. Picklefest Vancouver is returning for its second year, bringing together more than 40 local makers and vendors for a full day dedicated to pickles, preserves and the wonderfully creative things people can do with a little salt, vinegar and time.

Taking place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the City Centre Artist Lodge, Picklefest is much more than an excuse to eat your weight in dill pickles. It celebrates one of the oldest and most universal food traditions in the world, and the cultures, families, and communities that have kept those traditions alive.

Pickling Is a Universal Language

Nearly every culture has found its own way to preserve the harvest and stretch seasonal ingredients a little further. In Vancouver, a city shaped by people from around the world, that means pickling traditions come in an extraordinary range of flavours.

At Picklefest, visitors can expect everything from South Asian achar and Korean kimchi to Jewish deli dills, Mexican escabeche and Eastern European preserves. Some recipes have been handed down through generations, while others take those familiar traditions in playful new directions. That combination of heritage and experimentation is part of what makes the festival so appealing. There is room for the pickle your grandmother would recognize and the completely unexpected creation you never knew needed to exist.

Pickling is practical, certainly, but it is also deeply personal. A jar can hold a family recipe, the flavours of a childhood kitchen or a connection to a place that still feels like home. At Picklefest, those stories meet, mingle and, most importantly, come alive through flavour.

Meet Vancouver’s Makers

More than 40 local makers and vendors will be showcasing their creations throughout the day. Expect shelves and tables loaded with crunchy, tangy, spicy, sour and occasionally surprising treats, along with pickle-inspired bites and bevvies that prove cucumbers are only the beginning.

The festival is also a chance to meet the people behind the jars. Visitors can discover small local businesses, learn about different pickling methods and find out what makes each maker’s recipe distinct. Whether you are devoted to a classic garlic dill, obsessed with fiery ferments or simply willing to try anything once, there should be plenty to keep your taste buds busy.

The Show Us Your Pickle Contest

Home picklers will also get their moment in the spotlight during the Show Us Your Pickle Contest. Entrants will submit their best homemade creations across five categories, and the winners will be announced live at the festival.

It is the kind of competition where family pride, secret spice blends and strong opinions about crunch are all likely to come into play. Even if you are not entering a jar of your own, the contest promises to be one of the most entertaining parts of the day.

Food, Music and Plenty of Pickle Energy

A live DJ will keep the party going throughout the festival, while vendors serve up an assortment of delicious and unexpected pickle-inspired food and drinks.

Every ticket holder will also receive a gift bag valued at $30, giving guests a few extra goodies to take home after the last briny bite.

Picklefest feels especially at home in Vancouver because it reflects the city itself: culturally diverse, food-obsessed and always curious about what local makers are creating next.

It honours recipes with long histories without treating tradition as something that has to stand still.
