The Canucks had their first game of the season at Rogers Arena last night against the LA Kings.  Like every year, fans gathered together to celebrate their home team, they way only Canucks fans can.

Being the 40th year of the franchise, there was a ceremony to celebrate the team’s first roster. It was a very emotional celebration, specially for one specific Canuck – Henrik Sedin was named the team’s 13th captain. His new jersey was handed to him by Orland Kurtenbach – the very first Canuck to wear the C.

The team wore their vintage jerseys to the ice – while the Kings wore their very regal looking new uniforms.

Overall it was a bitter-sweet evening. Starting with beloved ex-teammate Willie Mitchell’s debut as a King, and completed with a shootout loss of 1-0.

One response to “Canucks open their 40th season with much fanfare”

  1. At least the Canucks gained a point. Should be interesting now that Luongo is focusing on goaltending and Henrik is dedicated to team leadership (something I think he’ll easily gravitate to like duck to water).
