Burger bars are opening up everywhere it seems, and a welcome addition to the burger scene is Stackhouse Burger Bar.

Located on Granville and Davie – this restaurant features a large white oak bar and an open kitchen concept. It also has a patio and a very contemporary atmosphere. Very cool.

Chef Shahab Ghaemi in his quest to create the “perfect” burger, has come up with a menu that features 10 types of burgers, ranging from Kobe beef, prime rib, portobello mushroom, chicken breast, amongst  others.

The menu also has a variety of sides, such as onion rings, dips and salads.

For our lunch, Sean and I (Sean recommended this place, for his own review of Stackhouse click here) ordered two types of burgers: Me, the Stackhouse burger (prime rib patty with pancetta, portabellini, Guinness cheddar, chipotle aioli and butter lettuce served on a brioche bun) which happened to be the lunch special that day ($10 for a burger and fries or salad).

I liked my burger, but sadly there was no pancetta to be had, as I was told they had ran out. Even without it though, the burger was tasty. I loved the cheddar cheese that they use, as well as the mushroom taste the portobello brings. Loved the Chipotle mayo. It gave it a bit of a spicy kick.

I really enjoyed the salad –  it had the tastiest dressing, a citrus, rosemary vinaigrette. Although the rosemary was quite subtle, the citrus flavours were delightful.

Sean’s Kobe burger looked amazing – ($21 – Kobe beef patty with Guinness cheddar, caramelized onions, truffle aioli and butter lettuce served on a brioche bun). He told me that it was really good.

Now maybe it’s just me, but $21 for a burger? I found it a little expensive for the portion you get.

We order a side order of onion rings to go with our orders – ($7) now these I liked! there were deep fried to perfection and their crispy batter was delicious. You also get your choice of dipping sauce – cilantro, chipotle, truffle or miso. We chose the chipotle for the rings. The other side dish that we tried were the deep fried pickles ($5). Sadly they’re not on the menu, but if you ask for them you can order them. I really liked them, I mean, it’s something different. Once again, you have your choice of dipping sauce. I ordered the miso dip for them, but I still liked the chipotle better.

For dessert we had the deep dried ice cream ($9) ice cream wrapped in brioche dough, deep fried and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. It came with a Kahlua chocolate sauce and lots of strawberries. I thought that the portion was a bit tiny for nine dollars. It was such a small scoop of ice cream.

Aside from the excellent burger deal, they have certain beers for only $4. Now that’s an excellent value for downtown Vancouver.

  1. Looks like it would be worth trying. It never dawned on me that there was a trend of burger places opening in Vancouver. But now that you mention it… I have been to a fair number of them recently. BTW did you know that Wally’s burger has re-opened a few locations? I have never been to the original place so I can’t really compare. I can tell you the burgers there are cheap though.

We tried going here on my birthday to go with the True Blood theme ( stackouse.. Get it? ) came in, sat ourselves after standing at the door for a few minutes unacknowledged. I think the guy finally brought a menu to the table after 20 more minutes. Didnt even say anything, just threw them on thevtable. No drink order or any further acknowledgment for another 20 minutes so we had to leave since we didn’t have all night. It wasn’t even that busy. So I wish I tried their food but the a-hole working there ruined our experience and I’ll never go back. :(

    1. Dale! That’s awful! You should say something about your experience, at least give them the chance to make it right – although ruining your birthday is pretty horrible :(
