Disclaimer: This is not a political post. This has nothing to do with my feelings or opinions about the Occupy movement. This is about a girl who likes to eat, who wants to help the food carts around the VAG site.

My fellow tweep @drewcooks shared on twitter a CTV story about how the Occupy Vancouver movement is hurting the food carts around the Vancouver Art Gallery site. Food carts like The Re-Up BBQ, that have been there for a couple of years, are saying that their sales have dropped 50-60% since the movement took over the site. Mangal Kiss, one of my good friend Sean’s favourite, (you can read his review here) is hurting so bad, that they might have to close their doors for good.

Most of these small businesses are dipping into their savings just to stay afloat. The owners are already working 14 + hours days just to make ends meet.

I want to help. I think all of us should help!

I hereby declare Friday November 18 Support the Food Carts Day. Between 11-3 pm, stop by for lunch, a snack, or take dinner home from one of the many Food Carts in the VAG area. Tag your tweets with the #supportYVRfoodcarts hashtag.

Even if they clear out Occupy Vancouver before then, It will take a long time for these small businesses to recover. Let’s spread the word and put our money where our mouths are! Let’s #supportYVRfoodcarts this Friday!! Spread the word!!!

  4. I didn’t realize that things had gotten that bad. I know what it’s like to be a small business owner and then to literally to have such an unexpected circumstance to happen. I’m going to drop by and support this. And I actually found this out because a friend of mine who’s not a foodie posted it.

I’m glad the word is spreading.
