Hidden in the residential area of Victoria Hill in New Westminster, we found this little gem.
Victoria Sushi comes highly recommended, not only on Urbanspoon, but also on Trip Advisor and Yelp. I was surprised at how small the restaurant is. The decor is simple and everything is very clean. Overall a pleasant first impression.
The service was friendly enough. There was only two staff working and it seems to be a family-run business. The restaurant was steady with dine-in customers and pick up orders. I took it as a good sign.
We started with the sockeye salmon sashimi.
Oh beautiful, delicious fish how I missed you! I craved sashimi constantly during my pregnancy and I had to do without. So now I’ was ready to make up for lost time. The fish was firm and simply delicious. for $12.95 we got 6 pieces of fish, not exactly cheap. They had a farm salmon option for $10 but it’s always wild salmon for me. In my opinion it looks and taste better.
I decided to order a classic California roll ($3.50) – not much to say about this roll, except that it was very well packed and it held its shape well.
Now this item is not on the menu, but after talking to the owner, he suggested I try it. The Red Dragon Roll
For $9.95 this roll is great for sharing and is full of flavour – avocado, roe, spicy sauce and prawn tempura, there were so many textures and it was a pleasure to eat. Warning: It’s not called the Red Dragon for nothing, this is one spicy morsel!
This was a good experience for me and my dining partner. I look forward to my next visit to Victoria Sushi.
The sockeye salmon sashimi has such a beautiful color. I agree, wild salmon is the way to go.
