The new Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam opens tomorrow and it’s Canada’s first. With more than 950 state-of-the-art slot machines, a 1,100 seat theatre and seven dining spots, this is gonna be Vancouver’s new hot spot.
The Hard Rock Cafe brand evokes passion, inspires memorable experiences and ignites just a bit of rebellious youth.
Of course the main focus of the decor and entertainment is music. The grand opening will see Canadian band Hedley take the stage, and headliners like Our Lady Peace and The Goo Goo Dolls take the stage in the new year.
We had a chance to speak to rock memorabilia curator Warwick Stone. He designed the iconic neon guitar signs outside each location. The inspiration? Peter Townsend.
He also spoke of how the Hard Rock Cafe got his name. I’m not gonna go into details, because you really need to hear this story from him, but it has something to do with the album he’s holding. He was so easy going and fun to talk to. It’s obvious that he loves his job, and how could he not, he has the coolest job on the planet.
The decor is fantastic. The rock and rock displays are entertaining and engaging and feature rock greats like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Def Leppard, Prince, Neil Young and others. My favourite was the Jimmy Hendrix wall.
And Elvis Presley.
But of course we need to talk about the food.
The Hard Rock Casino has seven eateries in total, everything from high end to casual and comfort. There’s something for everyone. From premium steaks and fine wine, to craft beer and poutine. The eateries are as follow:
Stake – From prime-cuts to fresh fillets, Executive Chef Neil Jamieson’s menu is Oceanwise and sustainable. Everything on their menu has a story. (He’s particularly fond of his flatbreads and the beet salad). Whenever possible or practical, their meats can be traced back to their farms and ranches.
Asylum – this is a great space to watch a live band or see the game. The menu is gastropub inspired, and has a great cocktail list.
Unlisted – Welcome to Hard Rock Casino’s worse kept secret. No pretense, no snobbery, just a curated collection of small plates, tapas, and easy dishes created to intrigue and entice the food lover in all of us. There’s no menu anywhere in the Tri-Cities like what you’ll find at Unlisted.
Fu Express – Fast and delicious Asian cuisine with a dash of attitude.
Chip’s – fresh, made-to-order sandwiches
Roadies – made-to-order burger bar.
Fuel Cafe – specialty coffees, smoothies and snacks.
