I’ve heard great things about Tap Urban Cafe & Lounge from @WFLBC – like this restaurant is a hidden gem in quiet suburbia. The restaurant is located in the middle of a quite street, surrounded by houses and condos. Chef Alistair Veen wanted to bring together downtown class and style with neighbourhood comfort. I think he succeeded.
When Scott talks about a new restaurant, I listen. When Scott RAVES about a place, I have to check it out.
The menu is a combination of French/West Coast fusion – and uses local and sustainable ingredients when possible. The restaurant features an excellent wine list.
For our meal we ordered the Spicy Chili Prawns ($8) – perfectly spiced.
The Saltspring Island Mussels ($16) with saffron and wine sauce. The sauce was very light tasting, which allowed the flavour of the mussels to come thru nicely.
Pemberton Meadows Striploin with steak frites ($40) – It was served with flavoured butter on top, forming a rich, tasty sauce that mingled with the steak’s juices.
They also have great beers on tap, like the La Trappe Tripel from Bavaria. It has yeast and citrus notes with a good malt aftertaste.
The service at Tap was amazing. Even the chef himself was attentive at overseeing each guest’s experience. I was very impressed.
For dessert we had the cheesecake ($8). Very creamy.
