Santa Clarita Diet – Season 1 and 2 – Netflix offers us an engaging comedic horror series that’s irresistible and binge-worthy!

My wife and I have always loved TV comedies where the humor is dark, controversial and edgy. Some of our Netflix favorites that embodied all of these attributes were the series Nurse Jackie or the irreverent animations of Family Guy and American Dad. We’ve even stretched our boundaries and dialed back our sense of normality with some success by dipping into the even edgier and more provocative American Horror Story.

So both of us were excited when Netflix released Season 2 of the Santa Clarita Diet on March 23 (click here for the Youtube Trailer). This binge-worthy series now has 10 more episodes in which Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant play Sheila and Joel, married real estate agents in Santa Clarita, California. When Sheila goes through a dramatic life altering change, their lives take a dark turn as they try to manage the complexities and hilarious situations that arise from trying to keep their family together and lives as normal as possible.

Most horror-comedy series have a very hard task of walking the tightrope of keeping the situations funny whilst simultaneously dishing out just the right amount of gore. It’s also hard to find actors who truly fit their roles and have the right chemistry to make it fun.

I’m glad to report that Barrymore and Olyphant have just that type of relationship on-screen, and the dialogue and plot twists keep you totally engaged right up to the last second of each episode. Not only does each episode feel like a quick and delightful snack, clocking in at only 28 minutes, but it leaves the viewer with enticing cliffhangers that encourage you to keep watching. Case in point, my wife and I binged through all 10 episodes of both Season 1 and Season 2 in less than 3 days each.

So, if you want something short, light and fun to watch, then look no further.
