Homemade Oreo Cookies #Recipe

Do you have a party to host for New Year’s or do you need to bring food for a potluck? STRESS NO MORE because I have an amazing solution to your problem!

Dessert for Two has an “Easy Homemade Oreos” recipe on their blog. This recipe is great because it requires no baking! I tried making a few flavours, and my Oreos turned out so well without spending too much time making them.

The recipe calls for Famous Chocolate Wafers; however, I was not able to find it in stores but found Mr. Christies Chocolate Wafers. I also slightly modified the recipe.

Roll up your sleeves and let’s make some Oreos!

Ingredients:

1 box of Mr. Christie Chocolate Wafers

Buttercream filling

Original/vanilla buttercream filling:

4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp corn starch

1/2 to 1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp salt

Chocolate buttercream filling:

4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp corn starch

2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 to 1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp salt

Strawberry buttercream filling:

4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp corn starch

1 to 2 tbsp strawberry jam

1/4 tsp salt

Matcha buttercream filling:

4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp corn starch

1/2 to 1 tbsp matcha powder

1/4 tsp salt

Reeses chocolate peanut butter buttercream filling:

4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp corn starch

2 – 3 tbsp peanut powder

20 mini or 8 regular sized Reeses chocolate peanut butter (chopped)

1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

Do this for each flavour separately.

  1. Soften the butter. Do not melt the butter because your filling is going to be too runny (I made this mistake). Make sure you let the butter sit outside for a few hours or overnight so that it gets soft.
  2. Add all ingredients in a bowl and mix well with an electric mixer (low-to-medium setting).
    • When adding vanilla extract, strawberry jam, matcha powder, peanut powder, and Reese chocolate peanut butter, it is better to add little by little to see if the taste is to your likings especially when strawberry jam and matcha powder have very strong flavours. Too much strawberry jam will make your Oreos sour and too much matcha powder will make your Oreos bitter.
  3. Once done, put filling into a piping bag. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a ziplock bag, twist it, and secure it with a rubber band.
  4. Cut the end of the piping bag.
  5. Add some filling to the center of a chocolate wafer, put a second chocolate wafer on top of the filling, and slightly pinch the two wafers together to spread the filling to the edges.
  6. How much of filling per Oreo will determine how many Oreos you can make – I prefer Oreo thins so I was able to use one portion of filling on one box of Mr. Christie Chocolate Wafers.

Tadaaa! Wasn’t that easy? I’m very happy that it all worked out for me. Now I can give this homemade Oreos away at any gathering! Enjoy!

Tips: If you want to make a few flavours at a time, to save some time, do the following:  If you want to make 5 flavours, mix 5 filling ingredients together (only the ingredients all fillings have in common), weigh it when done, separate them into  5 portions evenly (weigh them), put each portion in a bowl, and add the remaining ingredients in each bowl and mix.
