1986 was the year I became a Bon Jovi fan. Slippery When Wet was my favourite album. I knew every song by heart. Jon and Richie adorned my bedroom walls.
Fast track to 2011 and aside from my choice of bedroom artwork, not much has changed. Bon Jovi still one of my favorite bands. They continue to deliver after all these years. This is my second time watching them live and if anything, they are getting better and better with age. Sure their hair is shorter, they have a few more wrinkles, after singing “Runaway” Jon tells the crowd – “This was our first single – this song is old, this song is married with kids now”.
I loved the band’s interaction with the audience: Jon yells – “This ain’t television baby, get out of your seats!” They play “You Give Love a Bad Name”. The crowd goes wild.
One of my favourite parts of the evening was when Jon sang “The More Things Change” – half way thru the song he took a playful jab at newcomers Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber – “The only thing constant in Rock right now?” – He asks the crowd – “You’re looking at it”. And He’s right.
