A Taste of Fall at Prestons

I was invited to sample the Prestons Fall menu yesterday. Chef Alessandro Vianello has been very busy creating a new menu that has Mediterranean and Asian influences.They are also part of the Oceanwise program.

Prestons is located inside the Coast Hotel on West Pender. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between! They also have the Canucks games on when they’re playing, which is awesome.

They have a great drink menu – I was lucky enough to sample a couple of martini’s from their list: I’ll mention my three favourites:

The French Kiss –  Vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice – this drink goes down so easy, and it has the right amount of sweetness and tartness.

The Lemon Meringue Pie Martini – Limoncello, Absolut Vanilla Vodka, fresh lemon juice, pineapple juice, graham cracker rim. Hmm… this was the hit of the evening – not too sweet, it was like a perfect lemon tart. I loved the graham cracker rim, it really made the drink for me.

The Chuck Norris – This drink carries a mighty punch – just like Chuck Norris. Strong. I couldn’t find it on their menu, so who knows what’s in it. You’ll have to take my word for it, it was awesome.


Now for the food: There were some excellent samples to be had: These are my favourites:

The Thai Red Curry – spicy coconut curry, chicken, eggplant, peppers, red onion and steamed Jasmine rice. This curry was so flavourful, and it was nice and spicy. The coconut gave it a hint of sweetness, and the eggplant gave it a nice texture. Some curries can be so one-dimentional, but not this one. Hands down, this was my favourite dish of the night! I would come back to Prestons based on this dish alone.

The Braised BBQ Pork Sliders – A Great appetizer to start! These little guys have Gorgonzola coleslaw, a homemade BBQ sauce, and slow cooked pork. They were so yummy. The pork was nice and tender and the coleslaw gave this little burger a nice creamy consistency. While we’re on the topic of pork, why not try the Poutine with Pulled Pork – Cheese curds, crispy french fries all held together by a Rickard’s Red gravy.

Another dish that it’s worth mentioning are their ribs. The Hong Kong Baby Back Pork Ribs are glazed with a sweet Hoisin and Ginger mixture and they are so good! Mine just came off the bone.
