La Taqueria (Cambie)
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: La Taqueria makes the best tacos.
They’ve recently open a location in Fairview. The new restaurant is much bigger than the one downtown.
The menu hasn’t changed much, La Taqueria offers great service and great tacos for a good price. Meat tacos are $2.50 each or 4 for $9.50. Veggie tacos are $2.00 each or 4 for $7.00
I really like the fixings bar at La Taqueria – They have the pickled onions, the jalapeno peppers, the sauces… It’s just like the taco stands in Mexico.
Cool thing about the business cards at La Taqueria – they’re loteria cards. Loteria is like Mexican bingo, I used to play it when I was a kid. I love how La Taqueria brought back that memory for me.
I think I’ve must’ve tried every single taco at least three times: these are my favourites:
Rajas con Crema – Roasted poblano peppers with creamed corn, sour cream and Mexican cheese. I love these tacos, the corn and the peppers give them a nice, meaty consistency. The cheese combined with the sour cream is a creamy delight!
Frijoles Charros con Queso – refried beans with cheese. Beans are a big part of the Latin American diet. Refried beans are a treat. These are really, really good. Add some pickled onions for extra flavour.
Asada – steak tacos – these are especially good. The meat is tender and marinated to perfection.
The list goes on and on. Frankly all of the tacos are good!
They also have really, really good horchata. It has a nice sweetness to it, and a hint of vanilla and cinnamon.
