Cray Kitchen + Bar has only been opened for a couple of months, but it’s already a popular dining joint in the Mount Pleasant area of Vancouver.
This is a fun dining experience if you enjoy Creole-inspired food in a casual atmosphere. Now for a limited time, VANEATS.ca is offering a dining package that includes the restaurant’s top menu items.
For $18.50 the Cray-vings package includes:
- 1/2 lb of Crawfish, shipped live from Louisana
- 1/2 lb of Shrimp, shipped from Thailand/Ecuador
- Cod Nuggets, deep fried and crispy (3 pieces)
- Deep Fried Oysters, spiced in a Louisana cajun fry batter (2 pieces)
- Cajun Fries, cajun spice peppered
The tables are covered in butcher paper and bibs and plastic gloves are provided. There are paper towels at the tables. With so many precautions, you know that you’re in for something good!
But let’s start with the non-messy stuff first:
Our deep fried oysters, cajun fries and cod nuggets came all together on a basket. The cod bites are some serious yummy stuff! Crispy and surprisingly light, I could’ve eaten a hundred of them. Myself and my dining partner loved them.
The Cajun Seafood Boil came in a plastic bag. Before we were served, we were asked what type of seasoning we wanted: The choices are Juicy Cajun, Garlic Butter, Lemon Pepper, or Cray Mix – which is a mixture of all of the above. We decided to go with the cray mix. The shrimps were more like prawns, huge little beasts. So delicious.
I’ve never had cray fish before – they look just like little lobsters. The restaurant provides you with instructions on how to eat cray fish. You pull the head and the tail at the same time and twist. Suck on the head to get some nice juicy flavours, then you eat the meat from the tail and the claws. Their meat is much richer than lobster.
Other items to try are the chicken and sausage gumbo and the calamari, both excellent add-ons.
Cray Kitchen and Bar offers a good selection of beer on tap. Can’t go wrong with a nice cold beer and seafood together.
This dining package is a fun dining experience. Now at $18.50, it’s an excellent deal.
The VANEATS.ca package goes on sale today, check out their website for more details.
I was a guest of VANEATS.ca – I did not paid for this dining package, however I paid for my drinks and any other items we ordered.
