I’m starting a new series every Friday in which I will shine the spotlight on a business, person or product that has caught my attention. BC is so innovative and full of interesting people with amazing ideas and products, and I can’t wait to share them with all of you.

This week I’d like to talk about a product that I found while shopping at Urban Fare.

Northern Divine is a Canadian caviar.  A sustainable, certified organic, world class caviar. It has been endorsed by world-renowned chefs like David Hawksworth and recommended as “best choice” by the David Suzuki Foundation. Travel & Leisure Magazine ranked Northern Divine as one of the world’s top five best sustainable caviars.

Made in Sechelt from Fraser River White Sturgeon, The colour of the eggs or ‘berries’ range from rich grey, black pearl, olive to chocolate velvet. The texture is buttery, the taste, nutty and slightly salty.

The first time I tasted it, I knew this product was special. I’m not an expert on caviar, but I’ve had my share of it. My dad used to love the stuff, and he taught me the best way to eat it is with a shot of good, cold vodka.

I like that the product is sustainable. I was off caviar, since wild beluga sturgeon was declared endangered in 1998. For Target Marine Hatcheries to be able to breed, raise sturgeon and harvest caviar its nothing short of revolutionary.

You can imagine that luxury product like this wouldn’t come cheap, so that’s why I was pleasantly surprise to find a 30g tin of Northern Divine for only $88 on their website.
