Rocky Point Ice Cream

After an evening 10 km run, Ryan and I decided to walk to Rock Point Park to get some ice cream from our favourite local ice cream shop, Rocky Point Ice Cream. With the mess of construction of the Ever Green line (right next to the shop) and a cool winter, this has been my first visit in 2014, so I was excited to visit and see what new flavours they had.

In addition to innovative ice cream flavours, the shop also carries banana splits, sundaes, smoothies, milkshakes, ice cream bars, cotton candy, freshly baked waffle cones (plain, dipped and rolled!), plus coffee/tea. You might have also seen their ice cream truck around the tri-cities area over the summer at festivals and events.

Rocky Point Ice Cream has super cute retro interior decor and even serves doggy ice cream for your furry family member. Typically in the summer, they have a line up out the door since they’re right by the water park and the pier at Rocky Point but on this particular night it was empty, yay for us! Instant ice cream satisfaction.

All their ice cream and sorbetto are also made with local, and organic ingredients when possible and it really shows! We sampled a few new flavours with metal spoons and settled in chocolate mini easter egg ice cream (with real mini eggs). It was divine!

Why am I pointing out the metal spoon? Rocky Point Ice Cream makes a point of trying to be eco-friendly. I really didn’t think about all the plastic spoons going into the garbage from ice cream and gelato tasting until now. Another green initiative? It’s cheaper to get a cone rather than a cup at Rocky Point. Save a tree, have a cone! Awesome, I am on board with this trend.

The night we visited, Rocky Point Ice Cream also rocked flavours like honey lavender, cotton candy (made with REAL cotton candy bits), Girl Guide cookies and cream and my favourite, chocolate peanut butter! I am going to try them ALL this summer…at least that’s the goal. 15 minute walk = burning off all the calories right?

At any rate, give them a try if you are in the area and support this delicious local small business.
