Tasting Plates – Olympic Village

The way a shopaholic feels about the semi-annual sale at Holt Renfrew, that’s the way I feel about Richard Wolak’s Tasting Plates events. Where else can you try out the tasty tidbits of Vancouver’s culinary hidden gems? It’s like finding that one pair of Prada sandals at 75% off – and they’re your size.

This events are great community builders. This time around, we got to try the tastes of the Olympic Village neighbourhood, starting with Milano Coffee Roasters.

Our next stop was at de Dutch Pannekoek House – We had a variety of sweet and savoury pannekoeken to chose from; including smoke salmon, mushroom and edam cheese, and berries!

Our next stop took us to Aqua Sushi & Juice Bar. We enjoyed some innovative sushi made with quinoa instead of rice. I was a bit hesitant at first, but the switch was really tasty and so much better for you.

We were also served a delicious watermelon, mint and lime juice; a delicious way to keep hydrated this summer.

Our next stop took us to Rouge Bistro. Their offering included a seaweed, chicken and cucumber salad, a delicious mushroom soup and a chicken curry. This is what a perfect summer lunch looks like.

Our last stop of the night took us to Big Rock Urban Eatery for some hop salted steak frites and gorgonzola cream paired up with a glass of Big Rock Hefeweizen. Other treats included soaked watermelon cubes with blackened tuna and spring greens, and finally for dessert, mini s’mores with chocolate stout gelato!
