Vanfoodster’s 4th Annual Taco Challenge
You know that summer is here when Richard Wolak announces its Vancouver Taco Challenge.
This is when Restaurants from all over the city are invited to enter their one-of-a-kind, tasty creations for a chance at glory and the title of Best of Taco in the Lower Mainland. Each restaurant will be featuring their tacos from May 11 – June 4, 2017.
I’m lucky to be one of three media judges for this challenge, but the challenge also has a People Choice Award component. We invite you to vote for your favourite creations here. This is a fun event to make a night of it with friends.
The 7 Taco creations competing for your votes are:
El Cubano Tacos from The Pawn Shop YVR.
Caramelized cheese tortilla, shredded lettuce, house made carnitas, grainy dijon aioli, cucumber salsa, crispy fried onions, topped with a dill pickle. $9.95
Fish Pakora Tacos from Holi Masala Food Truck.
Cod tossed in masala, chutney, mango aioli and masala coleslaw and cilantro. $11
Tacos Veganos from Hugo’s Tacos.
Vegan chorizo, grilled nopales, cashew crema, cilantro and lemon-pickled onions. $5.50.

Halibut in adobo de achiote, orange dressed slaw, Black Beans, Salsa Xni Pec (pickled habanero and red onions) finished with Plátano Macho Frito (fried green plantain) on a hand made Huitlacoche tortilla. $10.

Rib Eye Steak, fresh strawberries sautéed with caramelized onions and thin slices of jalapeño. $9.85
