My First Cruise Experience with VACAYA

This year I had the opportunity of a lifetime: To visit the state of Louisiana with my best friend Josh and travel up and down the Mississippi River on board of the American Duchess with Vacaya on its first US-based river cruise in LGBT+ travel history.

I’ve never been in a cruise in my entire life, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Needless to say I was blown away by the accommodations, the hospitality, the excursions and the entertainment.

Our first night, we travelled the Mississippi in style in our state room with a private balcony. There were so many activities to enjoy, such as live entertainment, games and even church bingo! The food? AMAZING. There were so many options and the quality was great. There was also an open bar on board!

Some of the amazing entertainment included:

The following days were a blur, we did so many excursions! You can check out Josh’s video above to see what a great time we had.

Some of the towns we visited:

Pointe Coupee

Natchez

Vicksburg

Baton Rouge

New Orleans

This was an amazing way to explore Louisiana and Mississippi. The amount of history here will satisfy even the biggest history buff. Although this was a big part of the experience, my favourite part of the cruise was the friends I made. I got to meet so many amazing people with incredible stories to share. We all came onboard as strangers, but we all left as friends.

Check out VACAYA’s upcoming cruises here – I can’t recommend them enough! Happy travels friends!
