Royal City Musical Theatre has announced that its 31st season will include the hilarious and romantic musical Crazy for You, playing at the Massey Theatre from April 27 to May 14, 2023. A classic comedy about a young man, a young woman, and a theater in dire need of a savior, this play is full of lighthearted humor, unique characters, and some of the best show tunes of all time.
Crazy for You is a musical comedy with a book by Ken Ludwig, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and music by George Gershwin. The story follows the adventures of Bobby Child, a wealthy young man in New York City who dreams of being a Broadway dancer. When his mother sends him to Deadrock, Nevada to foreclose on a rundown theatre, Bobby falls in love with the local postmistress, Polly Baker, and decides to save the theatre by putting on a show. Along the way, he must contend with a suspicious banker, an ambitious dancer, and a hilarious group of cowboys. With a large cast of colorful characters and upbeat music and dancing, Crazy for You is an entertaining romantic comedy that will leave audiences humming its memorable Gershwin tunes.
Royal City Musical Theatre has been celebrated for delivering remarkable Broadway-style musicals for the past 30 years. This season, the same award-winning team of Valerie Easton as director/choreographer and James Bryson as musical director will once again lead an 18-piece orchestra, ensuring another top-notch production. To add to the excitement, RCMT is welcoming Vancouver’s own Todd Talbot to play the lead role of Bobby Child. Having worked together in the past in the musicals West Side Story and White Christmas, director and choreographer Valerie Easton is excited to have Todd join the cast – you may know Todd from his hit TV series Love It or List It, Vancouver or the 90’s Nickelodeon series Fifteen, but what you may not know is that Todd has been a theatre professional for more than 20 years – a true song and dance man!
As George and Ira Gershwin would say, “Who Could Ask for Anything More.”
