If you’ve ever dreamed of wandering through a spice market in Marrakech or sipping mint tea in a hidden courtyard, Moltaqa in Yaletown might be the closest you’ll get without hopping on a plane.
This Moroccan restaurant is bold, vibrant, and rich with flavour in both the décor and the dishes. The moment you step through the door, the scent of ras el hanout and saffron greets you like an old friend. Jewel-toned walls are adorned with Moroccan art, ornate lanterns cast a warm golden glow, and soft Arabic music plays in the background. It’s not just dinner here — it’s a full sensory escape.

Michelin Guide-Approved
While Moltaqa doesn’t hold a Michelin star, it’s proudly Michelin Recommended, a distinction that highlights restaurants delivering high-quality cooking that inspectors genuinely enjoy. That recognition alone makes it worth adding to your “must-try” list if you’re exploring dining in Vancouver and want something unique.
A Special Media Dinner to Remember
Recently, I was invited to a Michelin-recommended media dinner at Moltaqa Yaletown, celebrating seven years of Moroccan cuisine in Vancouver and unveiling new dishes rooted in traditional Moroccan culture.
It was an intimate evening where four Moroccan chefs presented a mix of new creations and classic hors d’oeuvres, each rich with the spices, textures, and stories of Morocco. Between courses, live Arabic dance performers twirled to the rhythmic beat of the darbuka drum, and servers floated through the room carrying Moroccan-inspired cocktails and a curated selection of BC wines.
After the first bite of lamb tagine I was already planning my next visit. This is like traveling without the jet lag.

What I Ate & Drank
I started with the chicken pastilla — a flaky phyllo pastry dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon, filled with spiced chicken and almonds. The sweet-meets-savoury combination was unexpected and addictive.
The star of the evening for me was the lamb tagine — slow-cooked until it practically melted off the bone, infused with saffron, preserved lemon, and cumin. Served in a traditional clay vessel, it was comfort food elevated to an art form.
Vegetarians, take note: the veggie couscous and Moroccan Hummus are hearty, fragrant, and satisfying enough to stand on their own.
To pair with the meal, I tried La Bel Aicha, an elderflower, homemade ginger, and orange zest infusion topped with sparkling wine. Light, aromatic, and perfectly refreshing, it tasted like spring in a glass. Then there was Amour du Maroc, a Moroccan date and cardamom–infused whiskey, cranberry juice, vermouth, and figs. Deep, spiced, and just sweet enough, it was the kind of drink you want to sip slowly and savour. Both were absolutely delicious.
