The other day Jake took me to his favourite organic restaurant in the city – Aphrodite’s Cafe in Kits.
This restaurant has a reputation for good, organic fare, large portions, and the best pies. Half of the restaurant is a bakery where you can enjoy fresh, homemade pies and organic coffee drinks.
This particular day, we decided to try their brunch menu: I wanted to try the Salt Spring Frittata ($15)
Topped with spinach, caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes and goat feta, this dish was hearty and filling. It was served with a side salad and home made multigrain toast. The homemade bread was so good! It’s available for sale, but I was out of luck, by the time we got there, they were sold out for the day. I definitely recommend it.
Their homemade soups are not to be missed ($4.50 for a cup or $7.50 for a bowl). They’re hearty and delicious. They also come paired with their delicious homemade bread. The Leek and Lentil Soup is a staple, but they also have a good selection of soups of the day.
Of course no visit to Aphrodite’s would be complete without a piece of pie. Their Strawberry and Rhubarb Pie ($7.25) is delicious. I’m happy to report that the hype for this Cafe’s desserts is well deserved! The pie was delicious, and the crust was the right amount of chewy and crispy. Pair it up with a scoop of organic vanilla ice cream and you’re in dessert heaven!
Aphrodite’s carries a large variety of pies: Apple, Blackberry Apple, Raspberry Rhubarb, Strawberry Rhubarb, Blueberry, Pumpkin, Pecan, Cherry, and Peach (when in season). They also have a good selection of gluten-free baked goods.
